Movie Review: Casino Royale (2006)
Sometimes in the post-9/11 world, a killing machine is needed to keep the world save. And 007 is that killing machine. Plot: James Bond is given one of his first missions as a 00 agent. He must win a card game so to keep millions from falling into hands of terrorists. Likes: We see JB as a ruthless hired killer that has the instinct of a cop and endurance of a prizefighter.; We see him start his career, start wearing tuxs and drinking dry martinis.; More of a traditional spy film with lots of action and great stunts.; The card game is pretty exciting. Dislikes: After the card game, the film starts to lose focus. The writers try to expand the storyline by adding slow scenes and borrowing storyline aspects from other Bond films.; No Q and few gadgets. My Last Grandparent
I just received the call that my grandmother has been put into Hospice. They have stopped all her medication and dialysis. It could be hours or a week. As soon as my late paycheck arrives I will be heading down to NC and hope I get there in time.

Movie Review: How To Eat Fried Worms (2006)
While this sounds like a title for some crazy cooking show, this really a kids film that my kids like and got recently on dvd. Plot: During the first day of his new school year, a fifth grade boy squares off against a bully and winds up accepting a dare that could change the balance of power within the class. Likes: The movies shows funny situations in which young boys deal with school bullies, girls and saving face in front of one's peers.; It exposes the truth about bullies and their power (or lack of it) over others. Dislikes: Many gross scenes of eating worms in various ways. (My kids laughed, I almost puked.) Rated PG for mild bullying and some crude humor. Kids Caution: Nothing bad. Kids love it. Prequel/Sequel News: There is a made for tv version from back in 1985. Out of four stars, I give it three stars. I liked how humor was used to defuse stressful scenes, but the worm cooking/eating was sickening.

Year Of The Dragon
Okay, I haven't blogged in a while about anyone in my family and since I myself have not even caught up with her good lately, I'm going to tell you about my great friend, Year of the Dragon! :) We were introduced a while back by a mutual friend who is not longer on this site, Jeremy Crow. If you knew him, you either liked him or you didn't but if you did, like us, you miss him dearly! "T" (as we all call her), at the time we were introduced, was told, along with her daughter (Stay at Home Mom, also in my family and good friend!), that they needed to be introduced to some good people. LOL (Thanks Jeremy!) And so, our friendships began. :) She is a very sweet, smart woman, who has been through some rough times in her life but come a long way. Movie Review: Bicentennial Man (1999)
The double Ph.D. and popular sci-fi writer Issac Asimov shares one of his best short stories to everyone in this film. Plot: A robot evolves from household tool to freed human being over 200 years in the near future. Likes: While mostly a drama, there are well placed comedy scenes that show why Robin Williams was cast as the robot.; It visualizes the saying "The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same." It shows human technology advance but not human fear of the unknown. This makes the future look and feel more realistic. Dislikes: I read the short short in college, and found the film lacking many key legal scenes and full of storyline add-on that aren't in the original storyline.; I found the film a bit too long. I think a good 30-45 minutes could have been cut out without hurting the overall film. Rated PG for language and some sexual content. Kids Caution: I think this a film that most kids would find too boring to watch. Prequel/Sequel News: None Out of

There Is Always A Reason For Something Happening.
If I hadn't of lost my job I probably would have lost my cat. He almost died. He has Feline Esonophilic Granuloma Complex which is an autoimmune disease. He spent 2.5 days in the vet. He was dehydrated and liver level was high. The white blood cells attacked his teeth and he lost 8 of them last week. He had to have them pulled. He is doing so much better. H ewill have to be on a chemo therapy drug for the rest of his life to keep the disease in check. I love him so much. His name is Sammy. He s in my pics.

Movie Review The Queen (2006)
As a historian and history teacher, I am always a bit pensive when I watch a major film on a historical topic, person, event or general time period. Film makers have tendency to rewrite things to bit fit the pace or running time of their movie. This causes me to wonder how accurate are they being. Well this film didn't give those feelings. Plot: Queen Elizabeth II tries to steer the British royal family though the events surrounding the death and burial of Fmr. Princess Diana Spencer-Wales. And new UK Prime Minister tries to help her do it right. Likes: The storyline is really three subplots revolving around Diana's death. This shows us different levels of personality of all the characters.; The royal family is shown realistically. We see that they argue, love, disappoint and support each other as best they can within the social fabric of their class. Job
What else happen this summer? I lost my job. I believe where I worked at were afraid my ex was going to come there and threaten me. This a a big security issue for patients. I just started this job in March of this year and only worked 6 months. I learned alot and loved my job. I made some friends. I didn't understand and still don't. I had doctors stick up for me and have great letters of recommendations. I am on unemployment until I can find another job.

Movie Review: All The King's Men (1949)
As a follower of American politics and political power, I like watching films that examine how the US political system can be used and abused. This film looks at how at times politics can be as messy as a mob war. Plot: A self-taught lawyer/farmer rises and falls in Southern politics. Likes: It expresses how power, ambition and the idea of bettering mankind can become corrupted by those who fight corruption.; There are no "good guys" that redeem themselves, but a group of very human and flawed who struggle to keep their heads above water.; It shows how at one time American politics was more like a mob war between candidates that would use violence and bribes to control others.; The acting is great with some good monologues. Dislikes: The ending is a bit disappointing because it ends abruptly when more could have been added to the storyline.; Not an original story since it is based on the real-life politician Gov. Huey "King Fish" Long (D-LA) who was in power in the late 1930s.

Movie Review: Chaplin (1992)
As I get older, I seem to like classic movies more and more. The classic films I like the best are the silent pictures. I guess because the lack of the actors' voices and sound effects cause me to really pay attention to the acting and body language of the characters. One of the best of the silent film age was Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin. Plot: Chaplin helps co-write his autobiography by retelling of his rise and fall in the American film industry. Likes: While the story is told in flashbacks, it is told in many neatly controlled subplots.; We see the good, bad and the ugly of both CC himself but also his friends, lovers and co-workers.; We get to see how Hollywood influences and is influenced by CC and silent films. Dislikes: The film shows little about his childhood, but I believe it is because his autobiography covers his childhood very little. What A Weekend
What a weekend, wow, amazing how good things feel sometime. I couldn't ask for better. My Dawgs won, my driver won for the second week in a row...Go Gordon, drive for 5. My stalker got all his profiles deleted, Grilled out and I could watch the airshow from my deck and the weather was perfect all weekend. Restraining Order
My ex this past summer threatened to kill me and threatened to come to my place of employment and cause problems. He wanted to come and see the dogs and I told him that I could not see him. He was not happy to say the least. When he drinks he gets very scary. The hardest thing I could do is get that restraining order. What a summer? That was part of the reason why I had people staying with me.

My Real Friends Will Read This
My cat has been sick all week and we couldn't get him to do much of anything. Late last night he said his goodbyes and early this morning he passed away. I've overwhelmed with emotions, this was /MY/ cat while his brother was everyones, I know Monster (when he was born his paws were bigger than he was so we named him Monster, I called him Moo Moo) was mine. I know you all mean well when you tell me your sorry about my cat but he was more then a cat... Moo Moo was an extension of me and when he died so did a peice of me. So if no one minds for the next few days don't take it personal if I don't speak, I'm just so sad. I love my Moo Moo and now he's gone and I can't stop crying.

Where Did Summer Go?
Summer started with my ex leaving and here it is 5 months later. I am doing great emotionally but hate being alone. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats so how can I feel lonely? I had a friend move into the spare bedroom to help him out. He needed a place quickly. I am such a nice girl. I do not have this friend anymore. I made him leave at the end of August because he did not want to pay me rent. He did help with a little stuff around the house. I think he wanted more than just being friends because he was so jealous of my young friend that came to stay for little while so he could find a job. I helped my friend out by letting him stay. He came and did what he said he was going to do. He had a job and was out in three weeks. I am a nice person and love helping people if I can. So now I have my house back to myself.

Almost A Year.....
11 months smoke free today. 1 month shy of a year. Holy crap where did the time go? The best part is, even with all the crap that has been going on in my life over the last few months, I am still smoke free. I finally fully understand that smoking will do nothing to improve my situation, and in reality will just make things worse. I certainly can't afford to smoke, and it would only make me feel more depressed and angry. So, I keep plugging along, keeping my chin up and staying smoke free. And no matter what else happens in my crazy ass life, I am damn proud of these 11 months. No one can take that away from me..... 334 days, 7 hours, 58 minutes and 29 seconds smoke free. 10030 cigarettes not smoked. $2,004.00 and 2 months, 16 days, 14 hours of my life saved! My quit date: 11/14/2006 8:00:00 AM WOW.....passed the 10,000 NOT smoked mark too..... :) That is one HUGE pile of unsmoked nastiness!

I Love That Girl
like i said, i went to the river with my friend jackie, little sister, dad, and stepdad (the one i like). i got to sleep next to jackie (who is a female in case you're wondering) all weekend. we ate really well, because both my dad and stepdad are amazing cooks, jackie and i went for a couple walks to enjoy the wildlife, and she picked me some flowers. we decided we would date (but only jokingly because her fiancee is very against it and he's like a brother to me). all in all, my weekend was great. i'm happy.

The Day Draws Near!
Well as some of you know I am getting very close to leaving the states for a long period of time and heading to the big sandbox known as IRAQ. I havent been around alot due to last minute things going on at work and in my personal life. Let me tell you the stress is building as the days get closer. My boys understand that this is my job and mom has to go and do it to keep them and the rest of the world safe, but it still doesn't make it any easier on them. Drunken Chicken
1 (3-pound) chicken Seasoned salt House seasoning, recipe follows 1 (12-ounce) can beer 1 sprig rosemary Preheat a charcoal grill over high heat. When the coals are hot and glowing, carefully push them over to the sides of the grill, leaving an open space in the middle of the grill. Wash and drain chicken. Coat the chicken inside and out with seasoned salt and House Seasoning. Open the can of beer and carefully insert a sprig of rosemary. Then, place the beer can into the body cavity starting at the rear of the chicken. Carefully place the chicken on the center of the grill, facing 1 of the banks of the coals, making sure not to spill the beer. Cover the grill and cook until chicken is done, approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, turning the chicken as necessary. The chicken is done when the juice runs clear. Pineapple With Lime And Coconut
1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes 2 limes, zested and juiced 1/4 cup water 1/3 cup sugar 1 inch ginger root, peeled 1 pineapple, fresh, cored - available in produce department 1 kiwi Combine coconut flakes with lime zest. Toast in a small skillet or in a toaster oven until coconut is golden brown remove from heat to a plate and reserve. Add lime juice, water, sugar and ginger to the pan or a small sauce pot. Bring to a bubble and dissolve the sugar. Remove syrup from heat and let stand. Cut pineapple into bite-size chunks and arrange on a plate. Peel and slice the kiwi into thin disks and arrange on pineapple. Scatter lime-scented toasted coconut over the fruit and drizzle the syrup down over the fruit in a slow, even stream.

Ginger Lemon Dessert Cups
1 box instant lemon pudding Cold milk, amount depends on brand of pudding, check package directions 20 to 24 gingersnap cookies 3 tablespoons melted butter 1/2 pint strawberries, sliced 2 pieces crystallized ginger, finely chopped, for garnish Store bought real whipped cream in canister 1 lemon, zested Mix pudding to package directions and let stand 5 minutes. Grind gingersnaps in food processor into crumbs. Remove bowl from processor and take out blade. Add butter to the food processor and stir to moisten the crumbs. Pour crumbs into 4 small glass bowls and press the crumbs up the sides of the bowls, lining each dish with a ginger snap "crust". Add a few slices of strawberries to each bowl. Fill each dish with lemon pudding and top with a few more sliced berries and chopped crystallized ginger. Add a whip cream rosette to each dessert and garnish with lemon zest.

Sambuca Cake With Strawberries, Whipped Cream And Shaved Chocolate
1 prepared pound cake, from bakery section or frozen foods, defrosted 3 ounces sambuca, or other anise liqueur 1/2 pint strawberries, halved or sliced 2 teaspoons sugar plus 2 tablespoons 1 pint whipping cream Chocolate syrup, for drizzling 1 bar good quality dark bittersweet chocolate Place 2-inch-thick slices of pound cake on dessert plates. Douse cake slices with sambuca or other anise liqueur. Slice berries and sprinkle with 2 teaspoons sugar, then toss and reserve. Beat whipping cream with 2 tablespoons sugar with a hand mixer until soft peaks form. Top cake with berries and drizzle with zigzags of syrup. Top cake and berries with whipped cream. 2 cups, 4 handfuls, fresh shiitake mushrooms 1 1/3 to 1 1/2 pounds thin cut chicken breast or chicken tenders 2 tablespoons light colored oil, such as vegetable oil or peanut oil Coarse salt and coarse black pepper 3 cloves garlic, chopped 1 inch ginger root, finely chopped or grated, optional 1 orange, zested 1/2 red bell pepper, diced small 1 small tin, 6 to 8 ounces, sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped 3 scallions, chopped 3 tablespoons hoisin, Chinese barbecue sauce, available on Asian foods aisle of market 1/2 large head iceberg lettuce, core removed, head quartered Wedges of navel orange -- platter garnish Remove tough stems from mushrooms and brush with damp towel to clean, Slice mushrooms. Chicken Quesadilla Pinwheels
4 large 10 to 12-inch flour tortillas 2 cups shredded Monterey Jack 1 cup chipotle salsa 2 cups chopped rotisserie chicken meat, still warm from store or warmed in microwave Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a flour tortilla, blister it on 1 side then turn it over. Scatter cheese on top and cook 1 minute. Remove to cutting board. Top the tortilla with 1/4 cup salsa, spreading it gently with the back of a spoon back to edges. Top with 1/2 cup chicken, then roll tortilla into a log. Let stand a minute before cutting. Repeat with remaining ingredients. Cut pinwheels into 1/2-inch slices and arrange on platter.

Ginger-poached Pears With Ice Cream And Blueberries
This dish is so simple, yet could be served at any elegant dinner party. It is equally good warm or cold, and makes a great addition to a Sunday Brunch. 1 cup water 1 one-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced 2 tablespoons sugar 1 lemon zested 2 firm pears, such as Bosc or Anjou, peeled, cut into thin wedges, cut core away as you work 1 pint French vanilla bean ice cream Ground cinnamon, for garnish 1 cup fresh blueberries In a saucepan, bring the water, ginger, sugar, and lemon zest to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the pears, and when the pot returns to a boil, reduce the heat to a medium-low to maintain the simmer. Cook the pears until very soft when pierced with a knife (but not falling apart), about 12 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat, and using a slotted spoon, divide the pears among 4 dessert cups or ice cream dishes. Add scoops of ice cream to the pears and garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon then tumble some fresh blueberries over each serving.

Shrimp Cocktail Withquick Remoulade
1 lemon 2 dried bay leaves 1 tablespoon coriander seeds, a palm full 1 tablespoon mustard seeds, a palm full 36 large to jumbo shrimp, raw, peeled and deveined, ask for these at fish counter Remoulade: 1 1/2 cups mayonnaise 1/2 cup Creole mustard, eyeball the amount 1 lemon, juiced 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper sauce, eyeball it 1 rib celery, finely chopped 2 scallions, thinly sliced Place a deep pot half filled with water on stove over high heat. Squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into water, drop the halved lemon into pot. Add bay leaves, coriander and mustard seeds to the water. When the water boils, add shrimp. Boil 5 minutes or until pink and tails curl towards the heads. Drain and cold shock under running water. Combine mayonnaise, mustard, lemon, cayenne, celery and scallions in a small bowl. Arrange shrimp around sauce on serving plate.

An Excerpt From My Latest Novel Attempt
I've once again decided to take a shot at writing a novel (not sure if this is #4 or #5). This one is a comedy, so I might actually have some hope of finishing it. It's about a stereotypical geek (write what you know) who finds himself transported into a fantasy world and thinks he's the chosen one (ala Luke Skywalker, Harry Potter, Neo etc.), but finds out that he's just as inept there as he is in his regular life. I won't tell you the ending so as not to spoil anything. My Very First Road Trip By Myself...yay

Feeling Trapped.....
I feel so damned trapped anymore. I don't love my husband. I haven't for a long time. I figured that out while I was still pregnant for our daughter and he was like " i want a paternity test". Lot's of yummy desserts are about to be made :) Halloween Cookie Pizza 3/4 cup Light brown sugar 1/2 cup Butter flavored shortening 1 Egg 1 tablespoon Water 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract 1 1/4 cups Flour 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda 1/4 teaspoon Salt 1 cup Peanut butter chips 1 cup Miniature marshmallows 1/2 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips 1/2 cup Pecans, chopped Chocolate Drizzle: 1/4 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 1/2 tablespoons Butter-flavored shortening Orange Drizzle: 1/2 cup Powdered sugar 1 tablespoon Water 3 drops Yellow food coloring 2 drops Red food coloring Preheat oven to 350 degrees. I'm Back... Sort Of
Okay I come back to over 50 Friend Requests since I've had my surgery done on Thurday. Unfortunately I will be unable to return all of the ratings people have given me becuase, well, I guess the bar tab doesn't keep track of them all :( so if anybody stumbles across this and has sent me ratings let me know so I can return the favors. The lasik went well, I'm really impressed with the results. I went from 20/80 in my left eye and 20/200 in my right (with astigmatism in both) to 20/16 in my left eye and 20/30 or 20/20 in my right, depending how quick I can focus. That should finally settle into 20/20 once everything heals. I'm STOKED because this is the first time since I was 8 that I've been without glasses. This is one thing gone now that I don't have to worry about when I apply for Tulsa FD. They have a minimum vision requirement and I was nowhere NEAR close to getting past that until now. A Day And The Life Of Me

This weekend i went to my National Guard Drill weekend ( lol i went from being a fulltime soldier to being a weekend warrior) and used my shitty hand to go shoot my 16 for weapons qualification. i did all right i shot 36 out of 40 and did better than most of the people that had use of both their hands...so i am settling well having not shot a perfect 40 out of 40. Sunday Afternoon Football
Am sitting here watching football, and it's sad for me to see. The once mighty Rams are horrible. They are decimated by injuries, and have no one capable of filling in. And I have to wonder WHY Dominque Byrd and Joe Klopfstein are sill in the league. Neither can block, neither can catch. Just throw it to Randy McMichael...at least they are FINALLY realizing that they DO have a good tight end on the roster. On the other hand, the Chiefs are looking pretty good. Sprint Sux
I just dropped Sprint after 7 years. Every time I changed my plan to up grade or get new equipment they mess it up and over charge me. Over the years I have had to deal with their lack of concern for my business. I have kept them because my daughters live in Connecticut and we talk on our phones without using minutes due to mobile to mobile being NC on Sprint In June, I upgraded from a 2500 minute plan to a 3500 minute plan. At the end of July, they charged me for the 3500 minute plan and only allowed 2500 minutes of usage. This drove my bill up by 400 bucks! They cut off my ability to dial out until it was paid. Again, not my mistake. They told me in order to fix it, I needed to pay the bill and that they would correct the error in my account and credit my money back to me. In August, it was still WRONG, Called Again, The same scam was told to me from the month before! (Keep in mind, I am a 7 year customer here with perfect credit and payment history!) I told them Ok

Merry Meet! The last few months have been....well, let's just say they haven't been dull. I'll be posting more about what I've been up to later, for anyone interested. Coming Full Circle
At times when I am half asleep I tend to think pretty deeply about my life. This morning I realized that career wise I have come full circle. In that from Oct. 1997 to now, I have had about 2-3 jobs and found none of them were worth sticking to. I had jobs in the customer service, education and food service industries. In their own way, the jobs were fun and interesting. I just couldn't see myself making a career out of any of them. I think my biggest problem is get bored in a my job very easily. I like to learn new things on a constant basis. And few jobs offer that. Over the last 10 years, some things have changed. I now have more responsibilities with my family. I am more mature and better skilled at job hunting. And I have the power of the internet to find and apply for job leads. I just hope this job search will yield a fulfilling career choice.

Another Car
I found another car being sold in in the want ads. $1,200 they want for it. Good condition they say it's in. Problem It's a stick shift and I only know automatic. Now i have a choice. I can stick with the car my grandmother's giving me or i can go with this one already repaired and everything. and it's pretty nice but i have to see it first to make sure. So there is that car and another which i left them my phone number for. In either case i should be able to raise the money to buy the car (either one) and still have some money left over to pay bills (eventually) For now I will wait and see what happens next. I don't' want to have to rent car's anymore or count on others for transportation.

Back From Rehab!
Well everyone, I am finally back home! After 26 days of rehab I have come to terms with my addictions and am eager to maintain drug and booze free...crazy thing to say since this is fuBAR! Soooo lately theres been some changes in my personality as well as the way I look at and do things. Its very strange and confusing..definately in a good way. Last Night

Bad Week

Here i sit in front of my computer drinking IPA and listening to Real Ska (first wave not 3rd wave shit. Sundae is another night of work but I mind it not. Only a couple of bottles of beer left....will be saving those for perhaps the week days. Next Saturday is Winter Nights for me. Should be nice. I will be renting a car again. But next month i hope to purchase a car. It will be nice to get out of the city and get to work without help. Some say they understand how you feel but yet they are never there when you need just a kind word or the touch of your hand, it is sad when one feels they must compete for a small bit of attention form there friends or family. Family Emergency

So I'm finally moving.. date is set for the week of Dec 12th... yup moving back to Greensboro.
