GENEVA, Switzerland, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- More than 1,000 people have died worldwide from H1N1 flu since it first emerged last April in Mexico, World Health Organization officials said.
The WHO officials in Switzerland reported 338 new deaths pushing the total H1N1 flu, or swine flu, deaths to 1,154 worldwide, CNN reported..
By the end of July, 168 countries and territories had reported at least one confirmed case of the H1N1 virus, in every continent. Recently the H1N1 flu has spread to Azerbaijan, Gabon, Grenada, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Monaco, Nauru, Swaziland and Suriname, WHO officials said.
WHO officials had said that the H1N1 flu has spread worldwide in unprecedented speed -- moving worldwide in six weeks what took previous influenza viruses six months.
