What are you waiting for?
What a horrid nightmare!
To be far away in a distant land,
Surrounded by mud and foreign sand,
With th’ smell of death filling th’ air.
It’s all so surreal!
At home one day eating a meal
With children and wife,
Whom you now defend with your very life.
The battle cries sound
Silently on the warring ground.
The warriors draw their arms
At the beating of their drums;
Waiting to break the cold air
With blatantly harsh steel,
To slash without the slightest care;
Piercing souls that will quickly heal,
And causing their bodies the greatest despair,
To just simply make a quick kill,
Under a bridge or over a hill.
Tis’ all these things that make a war so justly unfair.
