Icarus's blog: "Just South of Blue."

[Sore back song]

I'm a little dry... let's talk about food and games for a minute.

Lately I've been working on my lemon rice from my Indian cookbook. We've had lots of citrus in the house, and I've got a stockpile of spice available, so I've made it almost every opportunity I could.

I actually served a leg of lamb braised in lemon and garlic sauce to people that "hate lamb", and the comments were possitive, the shock of course was that it was "tender" and "mild". I contend that people like lamb (if they like any other red meat) so long as it is cooked and prepared properly.

On the side was mango salsa (bit of a misnomer, but it's red onion, cilantro, lime juice), because we had... a crate of mangos to get through.

I'm not crazy about actually sharing the specifics on this dish since I didn't design any of them, but I might share some of my audibles and tweaks I made.

Later though... kinda dead, and lonely.

My friends are scattering. Some already have. That weird... blazing burst of sociability is pretty much over, now I get to settle in for more toppling towers of cardboard, and a humble crawl out of poverty and powerlessness.

Diablo 3 is a bewitching, not fun cash zombie.
And I'm not explaining past that if it wasn't clear that I actually don't like the game.

So I've been playing the "best" games of the 90's. Fallout 1 and 2.
Just finished 1 on a MacGuyver/politician type, and I'm starting a dead-eye murderous thief (more my style) in 2.

These are the games that made "sand-box" a thing. I'm not playing them PURELY for the ... impact they had on the industry, but that's a major part of it. Now that sandboxing, dynamic dialogue options, and min-maxing are a western RPG thing, I'm pretty comfy in what I'm doing. I wanted a FAR departure from the monotonous money grind of Diablo.

Dark Souls and Wots4 are still at the top of the list, but they're months away. My enthusiasm for Dark Souls will diminish if the PC version has to have games for windows life support, and if my besty doesn't get the game too.

... I don't think I get to cook this week either.

But I did finish a robot.
Go gawk.
He's ... artsy.

I'm stalled on the next robot project, I have to tweak my work-environment in order to prime indoors, and I'm a bit ... barren on prose and story. I've had a few characterish, setting ideas, but the novel still lacks a wholeness.

There needs to be a world with rules, and history, and I just don't have that yet. I'm getting closer on my character motivations though. No Snidely Whiplashes and amnesiacs if I can avoid it.
I've been re-watching some of the movies and shows that inspired "The 1000 year Snake". A few ideas and great images pop in from that. I hate to say it but there's more book in that short story than any of the rest of the crap I've written lately.

*shrugs*
dunno, but my weekdays are a lot better with liverwerst and no backpain.
