What are you waiting for?

Now here’s a debate I have been thinking about for some time now. Just a few weeks ago, I was talking to someone about how it is a waste of time being on a profile site all the time, trying to be friends with people that you would never meet in real life, or even try to make yourself look cool on the internet. And especially for the website Fubar, where there are people on that site will spend countless amounts of money to impress people. I remember him talking about it being just like high school all over again, but now everyone are adults. However, not saying that this person is wrong in anyway, but he happens to be a hardcore gamer, or someone that likes to play role playing games or computer games, and he happens to play role playing games. Now, considering he was talking about spending a ton of money on websites and such, there are a lot of role playing games where you have to buy manuals, character books, and sometimes figurines for board sets and the board sets itself, which he himself has spent a large sum of money on. Now, what I began to think about is role playing games a good thing or a bad thing? I don’t know, I couldn’t answer that, I just think it depends on the person and on what their tastes are. I mean, it’s not for everyone, as how most other hobbies are usually. However, there is a case of being too much into a certain hobby, to the point that it literally controls the rest of your life, and sometimes keep you away from your job, friends, and family. Sometimes maybe the family part isn’t so bad, but if something controls you to where you’re not working or making money of any kind, it can be pretty bad. I know, of course, I can get into a habit of playing certain computer games to where I will not rest until I can beat the game. That can be said about role playing games, in fact, they may be even worse. I mean, you have to create a character and then act like the character, and comprehend certain situations of what that character would do. Sometimes, with certain people, they get so much into the game to where they may start acting like the character they have created outside the game. When that starts to happen, it tends to get scary at times. I’ve known some people that has affected them in that way. I think that’s the reason why I would not get into role playing games, being that if I create a character, I may get too much into it and start acting like that character in real life. Also, I always felt role playing games seem to be a waste of creativity, I mean you’re just creating something that you don’t really have anything to show for other than in the game you’re playing, but not outside the game. But, it is to each his/her own on what they like, being that some people may question why I type blogs, or even just write in general. Some people question why someone goes to a bar, or like sports, or like weapons, the list keeps going on and on. It’s all what the tastes of the person are, I mean, people need a hobby from the real world, whether it’s good or bad.
