An Open Letter to Apple:
On Sunday 7-25-10 I went to go look at IPHONE 4 accessories at... wait for it... wait for it... THE APPLE STORE!!!! This is the Apple store in Short Hills Mall in New Jersey. My wife and I got there and found that there was a line outside. We asked what the line was for and were told it was to get in the store. So we went to grab something to eat and then came back. Low and behold the line was still there. So we got in line and waited, and waited and waited and yes waited some more. After a 20 minute wait with about 20 - 30 of our closest friends we get to the front where the man in blue (I refuse to defile the word genius) was standing. In addition to him there was also a police officer next to him (no riot gear on and he was a very nice guy, but his mere presence still made the mood very sour).
I asked the apple employee why were waiting, when I could clearly see inside the store was not even 50% filled)
Before he could answer A couple came up to him and asked him what the line was for. Before he could turn to me I understood what we were all there for. We were a walking advertisement (errr or a waiting advertisement) for Apple!!!
After answering the couple he then turned to us and told us if we let all of you in at once (a whopping 25 or so people) it would be mayhem. I gazed back at the riotous group behind us with their battle axes drawn.
So then we get to the why are you here part of the conversation. I replied, to look at Iphone 4 accessories, especially the very technically cohesive fix for the signal problem, the bumpers. I wanted to see them before I signed up to have one delivered to me in 12 weeks. This was important to me because I the need to have a bumper on your phone in case I ever want to pick it up to make a call. This also means I need to either find a bumper with a belt loop or a belt loop case that fits the Iphone and its necessary bumper. He then informed me that I had apparently gone to the wrong place to find accessories for my APPLE Iphone 4. Apparently the APPLE store doesn’t have accessories for the APPLE Iphone4. I walked off wondering just what does APPLE have then? Isn’t that kind of like Cinnabon running out of cinnamon buns? Apple only sells a handful of products. How do you not support your flagship unit?
I would like to know what Apple's policy is for compensating people that appear in their advertisements. I feel my half hour waiting in line was just that, and I'd like to get my hands on the contract so I can sign one. Please let me know who I should talk to for that.
Note: All pictures were taken on my Iphone (hehehe the irony is great) to show the massively overcrowded store that the raving band of marauders couldn't be let into.
In conclusion, Apple please don’t pretend to be something your not. I just wanted to do some electronics shopping, not get into a nightclub. I will NEVER wait in line to browse in your store again. But don’t worry i also will not cross the velvet rope and make honorable police man restrain me. I just won’t go to your stores anymore.
