Duke Boomington's blog: "the good, the bad, the ugly"

created on 11/07/2006  |  http://fubar.com/the-good-the-bad-the-ugly/b22178  |  1 followers

So 9/11 is right around the corner and as usual I see the never forget pictures that flood the internet and fubar, and it seems to be the only time anyone cares is when the anniversary happens.  What happened on 9/11 I personally will never forget as i was in the city that week just a few blocks away.  I went to visit a couple of high school buddies who had just gotten out of college and landed good jobs.

I was on my way to the towers cuz, naturally, I hadn't seen em before.  Little did I know that would be the first and last time I would ever see them.  Nor did I know that I would never see my friends again either.  It hasn't been easy since then but, like everyone else, I am troopering through life.

As I Have every year since 2001 I've never forgot what's happened and the significance of it. I do not just remember around the time of sept. 11th, but everyday.  To deal with the emotion around sept. 11th I do what I have done every year since it happened, I live my normal life and I don't treat the day like it is anything special. It is not a special day nor should it be revered as such. It was a low point in american history and one I do not wish to be repeated. So i will go on with my life and live, like we all should and show those bastards (and those who think the same way) that they cannot and will not shake me or my way of life!

Now, on to some things happening that are a little controversial that should not be, but due to political correctness they seem to be.

first, this whole mosque at ground zero business. Lets get some facts out there first. 1. landing gear from one of the plances, along with other debris landed on the proposed site which makes it part of ground zero and is  part of what happened on 9/11. 2. He CAN legally build a mosque on the site 3. The emam that is to fund this building claims it is to reach out to multiple religions as a way of building bridges. Yet when it comes down to the first rule of reaching out (listening) he has failed to listen to the majority of new yorkers. 5. there are over 100 mosques in the new york area.

so in conclusion to this idea of a mosque at ground zero I give it a big thumbs down. Not only does it not pass the smell test, it doesnt even make any sense to biuld one there in the first place.

ok next topic, the pastor in florida who wants to burn korans. I was a bit torn on this one, On ne hand its perfectly legal free speech. On the same token its kinda pointless considering they cant burn enough to make a difference either way. So I guess my personal opinion is let the chips fall where they may. A couple thoughts though. 1 general petrayus said this would incite violence that would put tropps' lives in danger. I disagree with this because if our troops on the ground are not ready for ANY uptick in violence by the enemy then what the hell are they doing there in the first place? Does anyone think burning of a koran or a few korans is gonna piss them off anymore than they already are? I do not. Some say that the extremists will use this as a recruitment tool. Again, nice try..... the main tool they use is a lack of education and the lack of money to target those people and use them for their own purposes. I still dont know which way to land on this other than to say look at the reaction of the "offended" people. Makes the book burning look pretty trivial to me....

ok everyone have a happy weekend enjoy opening day of the nfl and I guess I'll blog again sometime.
