I read of a woman who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
She referred to the dates on his tombstone
from the beginning to end
She noted that first came the day of his birth
and spoke the following date with tears,
but she said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years
(1935-1999)
for the dash represents all the time
that we spend alive on earth....
and now only thoss that knew him,
know what that little line is worth.
It matters how much we own:
the cars...the house...the cash,
what matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.
So think about this mu very dear friends,
are there things you'd like to change?
We never know how much dash is left,
that can still be rearranged.
If we just take a real good look
to consider what's true and real,
and always try to understand
the way that other people feel
And be less quick to get upset,
and show appreciation more ,
and love the people in our lives,
like we have never loved before.
If we treat each day with respect,
and always try to smile.
Remembering that this little dash
may only last awhile.
So, when your eulogy's being read
with your life's actions to rehash,
make certain your proud of the things they say
about you in your dash.
I am happy that you are in my life and a part of my dash.
From my dash to yours
live long and laugh out loud.
Yesterday is history
tomorrow is a mystery
today is a gift.
That is why we call it the present.
To all of those we have loved and lost, we miss you and you will always be aprt of our lives
