Jasmine's blog: "Stuff!"

I don't get it.

I don't understand why on the news we're always hearing about stuff all over the world, crisis and things but I've found that we rarely hear about China unless it's about economic and political stuff.

I'm not sure how may of you know this but on the 23/08/10 there was a tour bus held siege in Manila, mainly Hong Kong tourists...with the tourist company Hong Thai. (I've been on their tours before (52)).

It's pretty horrible actually and the way the Phillipine government handled it was just absolutely ridiculous.
Basically an ex Phillipino policeman went crazy and held a whole tourbus hostage whilst demanding the government give him his job back (he got fired).
Obviously he was a wackjob to be demanding that when he's taking a whole bunch of people hostage, I don't see why the Phillipino government couldn't just lie and tell him yes he could and then just arrest him later, what's worse is that the police themselves caused near enough more harm than help.
They had plenty of chances to shoot the crazy man...but they didn't. On the news on the Chinese channel I saw the phillipino police in action. They used sledge hammers to smash the windows, but guess what? They were so careless they actually killed one of the hostages because they hit him on the head with it. Not only that but the police force also accidently shot hostages too.
The HK government is furious understandably. A lot of the stories were so sad that it made me cry watching it. On the Chinese channel they interviewed a young girl...still just recently rescued from the bus. The only condition the news crew given was that they do not mention her parents had died in the siege. They interviewed her...and asked her what the one thing she wanted was and she answered saying all she wants is to see her parents.

Anyway to make my mumm...I've noticed that whilst the BBC hardly mentions an act as horrific as this, such total incompetence of the Phillipino government and police force. If this had been Europe or America EVERYONE would be in uproar by now regardless of who is defending and who it protesting. However on the other hand...the Chinese media and news have always been VERY graphic about what they publish in their media. Especially ones of suicides and murders, they will plaster a dead person on their front page after they'd just jumped off a bulding (which happens a lot in HK) and also their media morals seem to be in question, they don't hesitate to interview someone so shortly after their trauma.

Another example, my auntie's friend killed herself in HK. Her daughter came home to find her mother dead and there was a news crew there within minutes trying to get an interview out of her.

I can't decide what's worse.
A media (BBC) that barely shows anything.
OR
A media like the ones in Hong Kong that shows EVERYTHING and are so invasive.

Err sorry, I'm sure many of you won't have the attention span to read this mumm/blog/rant thing.
Yea....
