If the Ecomomy gets any worse.....!!!! Everyone I know is suffering, having to make cutbacks, turning to buying generics in everything. I think it is truly sad when our "rich" nation is having to consider buying the equivalent of sandpaper for toiletpaper, and knockoffs and lesser quality just to get by.. Just like many I talk to...We are worried that economic collapse is just around the corner for us...maybe we need to stock up on the flour, beans and rice...stock up on cooking oil and plenty of canned goods..by the case to last us for the next 6 months to a year.Fish and hunt for food to fill our freezers. Plant gardens on onions, tomatoes and peppers and squash, cucumbers...the items that can get extremely expensive when farmers fields get too flooded, or drought sets in or more importantly when diesel fuel is nearly $4.50 a gallon which will put truckers out of business and force companies to use rail shipping by train. Ive bought new energy efficient light bulbs and make sure I dont leave a room with an unnessecary light on. I light candles to cut down on nighttime usage of lights.I will cook out every chance I get, to cut down on cooking inside during the summer and creating more heat in the house. Ive resolved myself that i wont be using my a/c this year.The era of being a spoiled instant grat brat and being comfortable all the time is over! Life is getting somewhat boring. The extra play and go money isnt there..its sitting in my gas tank. Maybe we all can get thru the stresses of the strain by enjoying more of our families. Finding "free" ways of being entertained. Cards, board games, movies at home instead of the theatre..go fishing, swimming. Learn some new recipes and making them at home instead of the high cost of eating out...Im going to do all of these and more..taking what I "save" and applying it to the principle on my mortgage. Making every penny count for an uncertain future is the smartest thing to do right now....Im unwilling to do or buy anything that would be considered luxurious.One wrong move and I could be a statistic in foreclosure, or applying for assistance in food housing or healthcare....! I cant control oil prices or the rising cost of utilities..but i dont have to bow down to them.The less I use them, the less I am their slave. If it means I start living more like Little House on The Prarie..well then so be it....Wonderfully great strong people were raised just like that! Living like that built character and integrity. Im off to google Great Depression Recipes and Blue Plate Specials..foods for paupers....I just hope it dont come back with something off the dollar menus at Mickey D's.....
