There is an obvious need to reduce our dependence on foreign and domestic oil and develop, improve, and use alternative energy sources. Solar energy is one viable option, but there are many myths out there about it. Here are some valuable facts about solar power. Click here to read more - Photovoltaic Device and Photovoltaic Systems

We now have the ability to use solar power to run small appliances, heat water, produce light, operate vehicles, light your garden path, heat swimming pools, and dry your clothes.

In order to harness and store solar energy, there is a need for a large number of solar photovoltaic cells, and it is not inexpensive to have solar panels installed. The initial costs of installing solar equipment can be prohibitive.

Even though we can harness and store sunlight for energy, some places are better for this method than others. Alaska is dark half the time; Seattle has a lot of rain; Arizona would be an awesome place to utilize this kind of energy.

If there is a power outage in your area, and you use solar power, you will still have power.

Pollution in the air negatively affects solar energy use. So does cloudiness.

Just about every building that uses solar energy has a backup energy system in place just in case there are times of severe rain, cloudiness, or other problems related to harnessing sunlight.

Although we can power vehicles with solar power, so far the technology is not great. Solar-powered cars cannot keep up with gas engines.

Using solar power at your home makes you more self-reliant. When the barrel costs of oil are shooting skyward, you are still using free sunlight.

These are just a few of the facts about solar energy; I hope they have helped you understand a bit more about harnessing and using the sun's energy to assist mankind with daily life.
