Wow - what a phone call that I just got...
DHS is involved with my family because my ex-wife was sleeping through my daughter's medical alarms and my daughter's nurse walked in (Daughter is minimally conscious...has O2/pulse monitor - low O2 can be indication of severe pneumonia that could kill her)...Anyway - my daughter was placed with me full time until my ex could balance her life and resume 50/50 shared care. My ex told me 2 days ago that she was getting excited about the progress she has been making in counseling, that she was up to 6 hour semi-supervised visits and was ready for 1 over night a week. This thrilled me.
However - DHS tells me that they talked to my ex and she told them that she did not want to return to shared care - that 1-2 overnights a week would be sufficient. AND - they said that I now have the option to terminate her parental rights...In Iowa - if parental rights are terminated, so are parental responsibilities such as child support - thus the custodial parent gets a big say.
For other reasons, I do not want to terminate her rights...however when I tried to explain this, DHS insinuated that I was just saying it because I wanted child support - made me very angery.
So - the question - in this given situation - would any of you terminate? |
