My boyfriend is a tugboat pilot and works out on the boat for 20 days, and is home for 10 days. He pays his bills and then leaves me signed checks when he leaves for whatever I want. It's very very hard for me to spend his money though. With my ex-husband, we had seperate checking accounts, and if I wanted or needed something, I always had to come up with the money myself. The bf told me that if I needed it for bills or to go to the movies with the kids, whatever it is, just use it, and don't ask. But - no matter how broke I am, just can't do it yet. Maybe after we are married I won't have such a problem. He claims it's not "his money", that it's "our money".
Should I quit feeling guilty and spend it if I need it? Or just stick to the customs to which I've known the last 15 years of my life? |
