Meyer, Gators basking in life at the top

May 11, 2009 8:00 AM

Posted by ESPN.com's Chris Low

Did you catch some of Florida coach Urban Meyer's comments during his booster club speaking engagement in Jacksonville last week?

The gist of what he said: He knows what a good a thing he has going at Florida right now, and he's not about to let up.

"I can tell you for the first time in our coaching careers, it feels like home. I love Florida," Meyer told the crowd in his closing comments as reported by Robbie Andreu of The Gainesville Sun. "This is a hell of a place, and this is a hell of a team. We're going to enjoy the moment and learn from the moment. Is this a good program? No, it's a great program. We have our foot squarely on peoples' necks, and we're not going to take it off. Right now, everyone is trying to catch the Gators. We will not let that happen."

Meyer went on to compare Florida's program to Southern California's in terms of all the highly rated players competing at different positions. Of the 22 players listed on Florida's defensive two-deep going into the BCS National Championship Game last season, 21 return in 2009. There's also that Tim Tebow guy returning on offense with a few people around him who can run and make plays.

"I've studied USC a little bit," Meyer said. "They had the cornerstone on developing depth and developing competition in practice, where if you have a bad day, you're out and someone else goes in. It's life in the big city and at good programs. Right now, we're a good program."

I'd say so.

Florida will be the consensus or near-consensus choice as the No. 1 team in the country heading into the season.

Meyer is cleaning up on the recruiting trail and has the biggest, deepest pond to fish in when you consider how many good football players there are in the state of Florida. But with the program on overdrive the way it is now under his direction, he's no longer recruiting.

He's selecting.

And when you start selecting in that state, it's pretty sobering for others.

History has shown in the SEC, though, that the winds of change can blow in without much warning, and Nick Saban's recruiting machine at Alabama is rolling along pretty well right now.

There's also a feeling around the league that the playing field will level somewhat after Tebow is gone. He's going into his "ninth" season at Florida next year.

Will there be a drop-off post-Tebow? Yeah, probably some. Will it be enough of a drop-off for everybody else to catch the Gators? That's hard to say.

But whether you love Meyer or loathe him, he's taken this program and turned it back into the monster it was under Steve Spurrier in the 1990s. In fact, Meyer has already surpassed the Head Ball Coach in terms of national titles, and something tells me he's far from content.

Meyer has that blend of confidence, smarts and rub-it-in-your face drive that the Florida fans swear by. He's constantly analyzing things and always probing deeper. His organization and attention to detail rise to the level of being obsessive compulsive.

They're all the qualities (along with his collection of rings) that cause his opponents to swear at him.

Nobody likes the guy at the top, especially when he's not adverse to reminding you rather smugly that he's at the top and is going to stay at the top as long as he pleases.

Well, that is nobody outside the Gator Nation, which is no doubt enjoying the ride.

Body:  ************************************************************************************************************************************************************ Don't tell God how big your storm is; Tell the storm how big your God is!!! This is the most beautiful advice I have ever received in an email ..... Please don't close or delete this one before reading!

An Angel says, 'Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.'
1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.
4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns . If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety . If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. K.M.S.. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.
17. Get enough rest
18. Eat right.
19 Get organized so everything has its place.
20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.
21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.
22. Every day, find time to be alone.
23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.
24.. Make friends with Godly people.

25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.
26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good 'Thank you Jesus .'
27.. Laugh.
28. Laugh some more!
29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.
30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can)..

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).
32. Sit on your ego
33 Talk less; listen more.
34. Slow down.
35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.
36 Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before. GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU.
'If God is for us, who can be against us?'

(Romans8:31)

SEND IT FORWARD PLEASE,

Not backward!

WORDS OF WISDOM

WORDS OF WISDOM Relationships - of all kinds - are like sand held in your hand.
Held loosely with an open hand,
the sand remains where it is.

The minute you close your hand and squeeze tightly to hold on,
the sand trickles through your fingers.
You may hold on to some of it, but most will be spilled.

A relationship is like that.
Held loosely, with respect and freedom for the other person,
it is likely to remain intact. But hold too tightly, too

possessively,
and the relationship slips away and is lost.

He think to solve problems you need to fight and not work things out . He is a drug addict and abuses alcohol . I really feel for his parents they have gone through a living hell with him . He was just recently kicked out of court ordered rehad for fighting. So if you dont want this kind of person on your page please block him .

Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift. When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had. It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back! Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile. There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real!Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.Always put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying. Please send this message to those people who mean something to you, to those who have touched your life in one way or another, to those who make you smile when you really need it, to those that make you see the brighter side of things when you are really down, to those who you want to let them know that you appreciate their friendship. And if you don't, don't worry, nothing bad will happen to you, you will just miss out on the opportunity to brighten someone's day with this message.

Yesterday I met a stranger...

Today this stranger is my friend. Had I not taken the time to say hello, or return a smile, or shake a hand, or listen, I would not have known this person. Yesterday would have turned into today and our chance meeting would be gone.
Yesterday I hugged someone very dear to me. Today they are gone... and tomorrow will not bring them back. Wouldn't it be nice if we all knew tomorrow would be here? But we don't, so take the time TODAY to give a hug, a smile, an "I love you"...

JUST FOR TODAY,

...smile at a stranger
...listen to someone's heart
...drop a coin where a child can find it
...learn something new, then teach it to someone
...tell someone you're thinking of them
...hug a loved one
...don't hold a grudge
...don't be afraid to say "I'm sorry"
...look a child in the eye and tell them how great they are
...don't kill that spider in your house, he's just lost so show him the way out
...look beyond the face of a person into their heart
...make a promise, and keep it
...call someone, for no other reason than to just say "hi"
...show kindness to an animal
...stand up for what you believe in
...smell the rain, feel the breeze, listen to the wind
...use all your senses to their fullest
...cherish all of your TODAYS

Today you were thought about by me....

Send this to a friend and let them know
they were thought about TODAY!

A man was sick and tired of going to work every day while his wife stayed
home.
>
> He wanted her to see what he went through so he prayed:
> 'Dear Lord:
>
> I go to work every day and put in 8 hours while my wife merely stays at
home.
>
> I want her to know what I go through.
>
> So, please allow her body to switch with mine for a day.
>
> Amen!'
>
> God, in his infinite wisdom, granted the man's wish.
>
> The next morning, sure enough, the man awoke as a woman.
>
> He arose, cooked breakfast for his mate,
> Awakened the kids,
>
> Set out their school clothes,
>
> Fed them breakfast,
>
> Packed their lunches,
>
> Drove them to school,
>
> Came home and picked up the dry cleaning,
>
> Took it to the cleaners
>
> And stopped at the bank to make a deposit,
>
> Went grocery shopping,
>
> Then drove home to put away the groceries,
>
> Paid the bills and balanced the check book.
>
> He cleaned the cat's litter box and bathed the dog.
>
> Then, it was already 01P.M.
>
> And he hurried to make the beds,
> Do the laundry, vacuum,
>
> Dust,
>
> And sweep and mop the kitchen floor.
>
> Ran to the school to pick up the kids and got into an argument with them
on the way home.
>
> Set out milk and cookies and got the kids organized to do their homework.
>
> Then, set up the ironing board and watched TV while he did the ironing.
>
> At 4:30 he began peeling potatoes and washing vegetables for salad,
breaded the pork chops and snapped fresh beans for supper.
>
> After supper,
>
> He cleaned the kitchen,
>
> Ran the dishwasher,
>
> Folded laundry,
>
> Bathed the kids,
>
> And put them to bed.
>
> At 09 P.M .
>
> He was exhausted and, though his daily chores weren't finished, he
went to bed where he was expected to make love, which he managed to get through
without complaint.
>
> The next morning, he awoke and immediately knelt by the bed and said: -
> 'Lord, I don't know what I was thinking.
>
> I was so wrong to envy my wife's being able to stay home all day.
>
> Please, oh! Oh! Please, let us trade back.
>
> Amen!'
>
> The Lord, in his infinite wisdom, replied:
>
> 'My son, I feel you have learned your lesson and I will be happy to
change things back to the way they were.
> You'll just have to wait nine months, though.
>
> You got pregnant last night.'

>
> This has been voted Women's Favorite E-mail of the Year!

> If you agree, send it to all your friends who would enjoy this!!!!!

Careful What You Wish For

A government employee sat in his office, and out of boredom, decided to see what was inside his old filing cabinet. He poked through the contents and came across an old brass lamp. "This will look good on my mantel," he said, and took it home with him.

While polishing the lamp, a genie appeared and, as usual, granted him three wishes.

"I would like an ice-cold Coke right now." He gets his Coke and drinks it. Now that he can think more clearly, he states his second wish. "I wish to be on an island with beautiful women, who find me irresistible."

Suddenly, he's on an island with gorgeous women eyeing him lustfully. He tells the genie his third and last wish. "I wish I'd never have to work again." Instantly, he was back in his government office.
